Wen Cheng Pagoda

Wen Cheng Pagoda is a cultural relic protection unit of Jiangxi Province.

Wen Cheng Pagoda is located in Yushan County and dates back to the Qing Dynasty.

Wen Cheng Pagoda is situated on Wanglong Mountain, five kilometers west of Yushan County in Jiangxi Province.

Wen Cheng Pagoda is a pavilion-style structure, six-sided with seven tiers, each tier being 5.8 meters high and each side 5.1 meters wide. The blue stone base is 0.80 meters high. The outer diameter is 9.3 meters, the inner hollow diameter is 4.6 meters, and the wall thickness is 2.35 meters. The total height is 41.4 meters. The pagoda body is built with specially made blue bricks and mortar, with the exterior coated in white lime. At the bottom on the northeast side, there is a small round arched door, 2 meters high and 0.80 meters wide. Each tier has three solid doors and three false doors. Originally, the pagoda had a wooden spiral staircase inside, which no longer exists. At the top of the pagoda door is embedded a blue stone plaque inscribed with the three large characters “Wen Cheng Pagoda,” with “Made in the Year of Renchen of Qianlong” inscribed to the left. The construction used 240,000 bricks, weighing 250,000 jin, along with 5,000 stones, 2,000 iron pieces, and involved over 1,000 workdays, with a total cost of 8,500 taels of silver. Today, the pagoda remains largely intact, although some of the base wall was slightly damaged by Japanese aircraft bombings during the Anti-Japanese War.

In December 1982, the People's Government of Yushan County designated it as one of the first batch of county-level cultural relic protection units.
