Lingxiao Mountain Fortress

Lingxiao Mountain Fortress is a cultural relic protection unit of Hebei Province.

Lingxiao Mountain is located about 40 kilometers from downtown Xingtai, within the territory of Beixiaozhuang Township. Part of the Taihang Mountain Range, it stands at an elevation of 1,129 meters.

Lingxiao Mountain is also known as Zhongyan Mountain. Legend has it that in the late Eastern Han Dynasty, Zhang Jiao spread the <> here, recruited followers, and initiated China’s first organized, programmatic, and purposeful peasant uprising — the Yellow Turban Rebellion. In 1993, Lingxiao Mountain Fortress was designated as a provincial-level cultural relic protection unit by the People’s Government of Hebei Province.

To this day, the mountain still retains historical relics such as a general’s platform, a military training ground, a water prison, an octagonal well, fortress walls, fortress gates, ancient plank roads, and two rolling dragon pillars inscribed with the characters “Great Sage of Virtue.”

Starting from the Yuanyou era of the Song Dynasty, numerous structures were built here successively, including the “Lingxiao Temple” and the “Imperial Princess Temple.” To this day, ancient architectural ruins such as the South Temple Pagoda, Imperial Princess Temple, Sleeping Buddha, and Pagoda Tomb, along with many stone inscriptions, remain.
