Hebei Province has a long history and is the only province on the mainland that features plateaus, mountains, hills, plains, lakes, and a seashore.
Hebei is a major province for cultural heritage on the mainland, with 168 national key cultural relics protection units. Among them, Baoding City has 47, making it the top cultural heritage city in Hebei. Handan, Baoding, Chengde, Shanhaiguan, and Zhengding are the five national historical and cultural cities in Hebei. Notable sites include Baoding’s Daci Pavilion, the Office of the Zhili Viceroy, the Western Qing Tombs, the Mancheng Han Tombs, the Yaoshan Wang Family Manor, the Dingzhou Pagoda, Handan’s Zhao Wangcheng Ruins and Congtai Platform, She County’s Goddess Temple, the Jingzhou Pagoda (Jing County Stupa), the Northern Qi Gao Clan Tombs, Tangshan’s Eastern Qing Tombs, Cangzhou’s Iron Lion, the Zhaozhou Bridge, Zhengding’s Longxing Temple, Xingtai’s Great Kaiyuan Temple, Longyao’s Tang Ancestral Mausoleum, the Shang Dynasty Xing Ruins, and Neiqiu’s Bianque Temple.
Hebei currently has five national 5A-level tourist attractions: the Xibaipo Scenic Area, Anxin Baiyangdian, Laishui Yesanpo Scenic Area, Shanhaiguan Scenic Area, and Chengde Mountain Resort. Other famous scenic spots include the Hengshui Lake Nature Reserve, Xingtai Canyon Group Scenic Area, and She County’s Former Site of the 129th Division.
