The CuiPing Lake Scenic Area is a national water conservancy scenic area.

The CuiPing Lake (formerly known as the Communist Reservoir) Scenic Area is located 42 kilometers from the northeastern border of Jiangxi Province. Nestled among the mountains of Dayoushan and Zhenzhushan in Wuyuan County, as well as Liju Mountain in Leping City, it is a large-scale reservoir primarily used for irrigation, while also serving multiple purposes such as flood control, power generation, aquaculture, and tourism. With a total storage capacity of 143.7 million cubic meters, the reservoir features a water surface stretching nearly 20 kilometers in depth, and covers a forested area of 18,000 mu, including 2,000 mu of well-preserved primeval forest. The area suitable for aquaculture spans 12,700 mu. The hydroelectric power station has an installed capacity of 1,585 kilowatts, generating 4 million kWh of electricity annually, and irrigates 159,000 mu of farmland.

A gentle breeze drifts across the reservoir, while the lake surface ripples with azure waves. Surrounded by rolling hills, their reflections shimmer through the forest mist. Agile eagles soar through the mountain valleys, and playful waterfowl skim the lake’s surface. Wisps of light mist drift above the water and cling to the peaks, composing a serene yet vibrant, elegant and lively natural masterpiece. Gazing into the distance is a feast for the eyes, while boating on the lake brings a refreshing sense of tranquility—making it a perfect destination for water-based sightseeing.

The waters of CuiPing Lake are crystal clear, vast, and enveloped in endless mist. The well-preserved vegetation along the shoreline blends seamlessly with the lake, creating a pristine and natural lakeside landscape. In the late autumn and early winter, the maple forests around the lake blaze with fiery hues. Clusters of trees and bamboos, arranged in striking patterns and awash with vibrant colors, form beautiful forest scenery. The surrounding valleys are enriched with the lake’s azure waters: meandering streams in deep valleys, dense mountain woods, and cheerful birdsong together paint a richly picturesque valley landscape. The scenic area boasts abundant cultural heritage, such as the Dunben Hall ancient theater complex in Chexi Village—the only Ming and Qing dynasty structure in Leping City built with a combination of stone and timber—and the Honggong Ancestral Hall, which commemorates the Southern Song Dynasty statesman Hong Hao and his sons Hong Zun, Hong Shi, and Hong Mai. The scenic area offers a variety of tourism activities, including landscape sightseeing, exploring the lives of lakeside residents, birdwatching at reservoir inlets, leisure boating, fishing, and eco-tourism.
