Liju Mountain
Liju Mountain is located 43 kilometers northeast of Leping City, within the territory of Hongyan Town. It is part of the Huaiyu Mountain Range, with its main peak, Xianggu Peak, reaching an elevation of 798.2 meters. The mountain forest covers an area of approximately 40,000 acres. Due to the extensive forest coverage and relatively high altitude in this region, a unique microclimate has formed. Generally, summer temperatures here are 3–4°C lower and winter temperatures 2–3°C higher than in the urban area, resulting in extremely rich vegetation and a wide variety of flora and fauna. The natural scenery here mainly includes ancient and famous trees, sea of clouds on the mountain, panoramic views from high elevations, as well as watching the sunrise and sunset in the mountains.
(1) Ancient and Famous Trees: There is a rich diversity of ancient and notable trees, with dense forest growth. On Yangshangang Mountain, a thousand-year-old ginkgo tree stands firmly with lush foliage, spreading like an umbrella; the Five Elders Pines are straight, sturdy, and reach toward the sky; on Liju Temple Mountain, there is a rare and precious forest of yew trees, along with a thousand-year-old camphor tree that stands majestically. Vast areas of bamboo forests are scattered across the mountains, creating lush green groves.
(2) Sea of Clouds on the Mountain: This area features a mid-subtropical monsoon climate, with an average annual temperature of 16.6°C and annual rainfall of 1,800 millimeters. The climatic conditions and excellent vegetation environment create unique natural surroundings. During winter and spring, mist often rises and drifts through the mountains, forming a distinctive mountain mist landscape. Walking amidst the mountains feels like strolling through the clouds. After rain clears, the sky turns a brilliant blue, and light fog occasionally drifts through the mountains, presenting a fresh and picturesque natural scene of green hills against a blue sky.
(3) Panoramic Views from High Elevations: This is home to the highest peak in Leping — Xianggu Peak. An observation tower has been built at this high point, offering visitors the chance to enjoy sweeping views. Standing here gives one a feeling of grandeur, as if “all other mountains appear small.” The continuous ranges of mountains stretch out like undulating green ribbons into the distance. On clear days, you can even see Jingdezhen, the porcelain capital, and Dexing, the copper capital.
(4) Watching the Sunrise and Sunset in the Mountains: The sunrise and sunset in the mountains offer a different spectacle compared to those by the sea. Here, there is no ocean noise, only the rustling sound of mountain winds through the treetops and the chirping of birds, showcasing the tranquility and vitality of the forest. Amidst the rustling woods and increasing red glow, a bright yet not blinding red sun slowly emerges above the forested ridges, gradually bursting forth with rays of light. This scene is not only a visual feast of natural wonders but also a process of spiritual purification, allowing observers to momentarily escape worldly worries and fully enjoy the magic and charm of nature. The sunset, in turn, offers another breathtaking moment that leaves viewers lingering in awe.
(5) Great Man Peak: This peak stands at an altitude of over 400 meters, with varied elevations and stretches for dozens of kilometers. The uniquely shaped mountain range, when viewed from afar, resembles a giant lying on the earth — with hair, forehead, nose, mouth, chin, and Adam’s apple all vividly and strikingly resembling the head of the great leader Mao Zedong.
