The Ancient Porcelain Kiln Site in Minkou

The Ancient Porcelain Kiln Site in Minkou is situated on Mount Wuzhangmiao in Minkou Village, Yongshan Town, around 35 kilometers north of Leping City. It was discovered in 1982 and is classified as a Northern Song Dynasty Yingqing porcelain kiln. The kiln site spans approximately 1,800 square meters, with layers of porcelain shards accumulating to a depth of 1.5 meters. The site remains unexcavated, but based on the analysis of collected artifact samples, the main types of ware were bowls, plates, saucers, and cups—all made of Yingqing porcelain. The body of the porcelain is solid, white, and fine-grained, and the pieces were fired using the upward firing method with one piece per sagger. No decorative patterns are found on any of the porcelain fragments, and similar kiln sites can be found in multiple locations across the region.
