Nanyao Kiln Site

The Nanyao Kiln Site is a National Key Cultural Relics Protection Unit.

The Nanyao Kiln Site is located northeast of Nanyao Village, Jiedu, Leping City, Jingdezhen. The archaeological excavation of the site was honored as one of the “Top Ten Archaeological Discoveries in China in 2013.” Research indicates that the Nanyao Kiln has a long history of ceramic production, dating back over 1,200 years, making it the earliest known kiln relic within Jingdezhen, the porcelain capital. It holds significant importance for exploring the technological origins, dissemination, and influence of early ceramic production in Jingdezhen. Not only does it fill a gap in the record of Tang Dynasty kiln remains in the Jingdezhen area, but it also pushes the city’s ceramic-making history back by 200 years. This site marks the precursor to Jingdezhen’s later reputation as a place “where artisans gather from all directions and fine wares travel across the world,” laying a solid technical foundation for the rise of Jingdezhen as the porcelain capital during the Ming and Qing dynasties.

In 2019, the Nanyao Kiln Site was included in the eighth batch of National Key Cultural Relics Protection Units.

Jiedu Town: A town under the jurisdiction of Leping City. Established as Jiedu Township in 1950, it was part of the Fourth District. In 1958, it became Jiedu Commune, reverted to Jiedu Township in 1984, and was upgraded to a town in 1989. Located in the central part of the city, the town government is seated in Jiedu, 5 kilometers from the municipal government. It covers an area of 78 square kilometers with a population of 68,000. The Ledu Railway, Lejiang Highway, and Leping–Dexing Highway run through the town, and the La’an River flows from east to west, navigable year-round.
