Incense Burner Peak

Incense Burner Peak is one of the scenic spots of Mazuyan, located ten kilometers north of Mazuyan. It features a flat, round summit that resembles an incense burner, hence its name. Towering majestically, Incense Burner Peak is surrounded by reservoirs. Midway up the mountain, there are caves that house rock tombs dating back to the Spring and Autumn and Warring States periods. The area includes Immortal Cave, Immortal Temple, Thousand-Zhang Slope, Courage Test Cliff, Fairy Pool, Yellow Ox Ridge, and Chessboard Rock. At the top, there are springs, a small bamboo grove, and the ruins of an ancient temple. From the summit, you can overlook a landscape of competing peaks and drifting white clouds, which inspires a sense of openness and serenity. The Ming Dynasty poet Huang Yingzhi praised it in his poem “Visiting Longhu Mountain and Incense Burner Rock”: “Spring mist shrouds the land, rain veils the view, / Locking in the endless green of Incense Burner’s crest. / Who, on such a day, could tire of the sight from a boat? / When shall I take my staff and knock on the rock’s gate?” According to Xu Xiake’s “Jiangyou Diary,” it is recorded: “...Passed by Incense Burner Peak. The peak coils in three tiers, dissected straight down to the south and west, with a hollow in the middle where a Buddhist temple was built on top...”
