Yinghao Square

Yinghao Square is situated in the heart of the county town and functions as the main center for cultural and entertainment activities. The square is home to a statue of Mr. Zou Taofen (November 5, 1895 – July 24, 1944), a native of Yujiang, Yingtan. As a successor to Lu Xun, he was a luminous exemplar of China’s progressive culture and a revered martyr celebrated by Chinese Party and state leaders. In honor of this great patriot, renowned statesman, publisher, and outstanding journalist, his statue has been placed in the central square of the county town for people to admire. To the south of the square stands the country’s largest Schistosomiasis Control Memorial Hall. Established in October 1978 to commemorate the 20th anniversary of the publication of “Farewell to the God of Plague (Two Poems),” the hall was inscribed by the famous calligrapher Wu Zuoren. Covering a total area of 6,483 square meters with a building area of 2,345 square meters, the structure follows a traditional Chinese courtyard layout, featuring a simple yet magnificent architectural style. The main entrance faces the central square and corresponds visually with the “Schistosomiasis Control Monument” located on the other side of the square. The main body of the memorial hall is 12.66 meters high, and its front porch is flanked by eight 11-meter-high square pillars. The lintels atop the pillars are adorned with bas-relief carvings depicting “Willows in the Spring Breeze” and “White Clouds and Flying Swallows,” complementing the artistic ambiance of Chairman Mao’s poetry. Inside, the exhibition space is divided into six sections: the Prologue Hall, the Hall of Hardship, the Hall of Eradication, the Hall of Consolidation, the Hall of Transformation, and the Hall of Notable Figures. Here, visitors can learn about the care and support that three generations of Chinese leaders have shown to the people of Yujiang, as well as how the local residents have built and transformed their hometown.
