Former Site of the Headquarters of the Red Tenth Army’s Chijing Division at Gaogongzhai

The former site of the headquarters of the Red Tenth Army’s Chijing Division at Gaogongzhai is a Jiangxi Provincial Cultural Relics Protection Unit.

The former site of the headquarters of the Red Tenth Army’s Chijing Division at Gaogongzhai is located in Humatou Village, Qiaotou Branch, Gaogongzhai Forest Farm, Yujiang District, Yingtan City. The site is a clan ancestral hall built in the late Qing Dynasty, and was designated as part of the sixth batch of Jiangxi Provincial Cultural Relics Protection Units in March 2018.

On June 22, 1932, in order to expand the armed forces of the revolutionary base and mobilize passionate youths to join the Red Army, Fang Zhimin and Shao Shiping led the headquarters of the Red Tenth Army’s Chijing Division to set up camp at the Hu Clan Ancestral Hall in Humatou Village. A mass meeting was held inside the ancestral hall to rally widespread public support for the revolution. The propaganda team of the Chijing Division used bamboo husks tied into bundles as brushes, dipped them in lime, and wrote historically significant slogans such as “Down with the local tyrants and evil gentry” on the eastern corridor, and “Build the Red Army into an Iron Army” on the western corridor. In August 1933, the Kuomintang dispatched large forces to launch a suppression campaign. The Hu Clan Ancestral Hall was burned down by the reactionary KMT forces during the attack. Thanks to timely rescue efforts by local residents, the rear corridor and the western corridor were preserved, and the slogan “Build the Red Army into an Iron Army” remains to this day.

Designated as part of the sixth batch of Jiangxi Provincial Cultural Relics Protection Units in March 2018.
