Junfeng Mountain

Junfeng Mountain is located within the territories of Sanxi Township, Shishan Township, and Zixiao Township in Nanfeng County, as well as Shen'gang Township in Yihuang County, Jiangxi Province. The eastern side of the mountain belongs to Shishan Township of Nanfeng County, the southern side to Sanxi Township of Nanfeng County, the western side to Zixiao Township of Nanfeng County, and the northwest side to Shen'gang Township of Yihuang County. Its main peak has an elevation of 1,760.9 meters and is situated within Nanfeng County. The mountain range extends from the northwest to the southeast, spanning 15 kilometers from east to west and 12 kilometers from north to south, with slopes exceeding 15 degrees. It covers a total area of 180 square kilometers, making it the highest peak of the Yu Mountain Range — one of the six major mountain ranges in Jiangxi Province. Known as the "Ridge of Eastern Jiangxi" and the foremost among the mountains of eastern Jiangxi, it is also the highest peak in the Fuzhou region. On January 7, 2008, the State Forestry Administration approved the establishment of the "Junfeng Mountain National Forest Park in Jiangxi", with an operational area of 1,217.15 hectares. The administrative location is Nanfeng County, Jiangxi Province. Geographic coordinates: 116°21′20″–116°23′57″ East Longitude, 27°12′01″–27°14′26″ North Latitude. The boundary ranges from the main peak of Junfeng Mountain (following the county border to) the boundary between Sanxi Township and Shishan Township of Nanfeng County (along the township border to) Jiulong Temple (along the valley to) the western base of Luan Shi Bridge (along the foothills via Huguo and Yuanjiakeng to) a small path (along the path to) Longwangwo (along the ridge to) Qiu Shan to the path toward the main peak of Junfeng Mountain (continuing westward along the path to) the border between Nanfeng and Yihuang Counties (then southward along the county border to) the main peak of Junfeng Mountain. On November 11, 1636, during the ninth year of the Chongzhen Emperor’s reign in the Ming Dynasty, the famed traveler Xu Xiake climbed Junfeng Mountain and remarked, “The verdant rise of Junfeng is the finest of Nanfeng’s Eight Scenic Spots; I am enamored by the mountain’s amiable presence.” Perhaps due to its “amiable presence,” or perhaps because the mountain is believed to reveal divine spirits, visitors flock to Junfeng Mountain for worship, especially during summer and autumn when the number of hikers increases significantly.

Sanxi Township: Sanxi Township is located in the western part of Nanfeng County, within the Junfeng Mountain area, approximately 20 kilometers from the county seat. It borders Shishan Township, Baisha Township, and Zixiao Township. The township has 12 village committees, 69 village groups, a total population of 10,265, and covers an area of 126.5 square kilometers, including 11,733 mu of arable land and 15,000 mu of citrus orchards.

The name “Sanxi” (literally “Three Streams”) comes from a small tributary on the south that joins the Sanxi River at the eastern end of the village, combined with the fact that there are three water sources.
