Tanhu Scenic Area

Tanhu Scenic Area is a national AA-level tourist attraction and a national water conservancy scenic area.

The Tanhu Tourist Scenic Area in Nanfeng County is located in the southeastern part of Nanfeng County, Fuzhou City, Jiangxi Province, about 18 kilometers from the county seat and adjacent to the Fengshan Highway.

The scenic area features a vast lake surface with many inlets and bays, where wild ducks, geese, egrets, and cormorants are often seen in groups. The crystal-clear blue waters are breathtakingly beautiful. The area is densely forested, with 17,000 mu of mountain woodlands that form a natural oxygen bar. Thanks to its unique mountain-water environment, the area enjoys a microclimate that is warm in winter and cool in summer, earning it the reputation of “Little Lushan Mountain.” Within the scenic area lies the tomb of Empress Dowager Meng, the grandmother of Emperor Gaozong of the Southern Song Dynasty, marked by a stone tablet inscribed with “Tomb of Empress Dowager Meng of the Song Dynasty.” Established in 1965, the area was designated as a “National Eco-Economic Demonstration Site” by the China Society of Ecological Economics in 1990 due to its excellent ecological environment, and it has since become a designated training base for water sports in Jiangxi Province. Currently, the scenic area has built a range of tourism infrastructure, including a training center, the government’s second guesthouse, a post and telecommunications sanatorium, villas, small bamboo cottages, leisure wooden cabins, pavilions, corridors, an archery field, docks, and fountains. It offers over 300 beds for accommodation and features activities such as agritainment, treasure hunting on Lucky Island, fish viewing, fishing, boating, water recreation, swimming, and archery.

Public Transport Option: Train travelers arriving in Feng can take Bus No. 5 to reach the county seat, then transfer to a Nanfeng–Taiyuan Township bus at the county bus station.
