The Kangdu Red Tourism Scenic Area is a classic red tourism destination.

The Kangdu Red Tourism Scenic Area is situated at the junction of Nanfeng, Jianning, and Lichuan counties, within the jurisdiction of Kangdu Village, Taihe Town, Nanfeng County. It is 30 kilometers from downtown Nanfeng, 35 kilometers from Jianning County, and 37.5 kilometers from Lichuan County. In ancient times, Kangdu Village was a vital route from Nanfeng to Jianning and Guangchang. It served as an important revolutionary base during the Third Counter-Encirclement Campaign of the Second Revolutionary Civil War and is also one of the city’s patriotic education bases.

During the Second Revolutionary Civil War, Kangdu Village became one of Nanfeng’s consolidated Soviet areas. After the First Counter-Encirclement Campaign, the Red Army arrived in Kangdu to overthrow local tyrants, redistribute land, and carry out revolutionary propaganda. When the Red Army captured Jianning during the Second Counter-Encirclement Campaign, it stationed in Kangdu. In early June, the General Headquarters and the General Political Department of the First Front Army of the Red Army moved to Kangdu, where they remained until late June. During this period, to direct the Red Army and local work, the famous “Kangdu Meeting” was held.

The “Kangdu Meeting” refers to the meetings held by the General Front Committee of the First Front Army of the Red Army in Kangdu Township, Nanfeng, after the crushing of the Kuomintang’s Second Counter-Encirclement Campaign in the Central Revolutionary Base in June 1931. It included three Front Committee meetings and one expanded Front Committee meeting. These meetings were significant for the development of the revolutionary bases in Jianning, Lichuan, and Taining, for the construction of the Red Army, and for securing victory in the Third Counter-Encirclement Campaign.

To this day, the scenic area preserves many revolutionary relics and sites, mainly including: the site of the “Kangdu Meeting,” the former headquarters of the First Front Army of the Chinese Workers’ and Peasants’ Red Army, Mao Zedong’s former residence, the former site of the General Political Department of the First Front Army, the former site of the First Front Army headquarters radio station, the Red Army hospital, Red Army slogans, the Kangdu Township Soviet Government, Red Army trenches, air-raid shelters, and the former site of the Fourth Sub-district Command of the Jiangxi Military Region of the Red Army.
