Nanfeng Nuohu National Wetland Park is a national-level wetland park.

Nuohu Wetland Park is located within Nanfeng County and is one of the headwater areas of the Fu River, one of the five major rivers in the Poyang Lake basin. Its main body, Nuohu, is a newly formed wetland situated in Jiangxi Province’s typical Danxia landform region.

Nanfeng Nuohu is located 48 kilometers southwest of Nanfeng County, covering a total area of 3,800 hectares, with a core zone of 600 hectares, including 282 hectares of tidal flats and grasslands. The wetland resources of Nanfeng Nuohu are abundant. From the perspectives of natural characteristics and ecological quality, the wetland types are mainly tidal flats, grasslands, woodlands, and water bodies, making it a typical freshwater wetland in the Poyang Lake region. The Nuohu wetland boasts rich plant and animal resources, with over 300 species of higher plants such as Cyperaceae and Poaceae, as well as substantial populations of insects, amphibians, reptiles, fish, and birds. In particular, it has a complete variety of migratory bird species, distinct seasonal patterns, and large numbers, making it a rare sanctuary for migratory birds.

Planning and constructing the Nanfeng Nuohu National Wetland Park is of great significance for ensuring the water environmental safety of the middle and lower reaches of the Fu River, safeguarding biodiversity in the Fu River basin and the Poyang Lake Eco-Economic Zone, and promoting sustainable social and economic development. At the same time, it plays an important supporting role in improving Nanfeng County’s ecological environment, creating a favorable investment climate, building a harmonious society, and enhancing the county’s status in eco-tourism.

The establishment of the Nuohu National Wetland Park will be the first national wetland park in China featuring Danxia landform, which is of great significance for enriching and improving China’s national wetland park system. By implementing a series of protection, restoration, and rehabilitation measures, along with dynamic tracking and monitoring, it can accumulate experience and provide a model for ecological tracking, monitoring, and protection of small newly built reservoir wetlands in China.

The Nuohu wetland ecosystem is rich and complete in type, especially the rural pastoral wetlands dominated by Danxia landform, natural river wetlands, artificial impoundment areas, and recreational wetlands, which are relatively rare in subtropical low mountain and hilly regions. The perfect integration of the Danxia landform with the Nuohu water surface and surrounding forest ecosystems gives it typical representation in China’s southern mountainous areas and holds certain national significance, offering high scientific value.

At the same time, Nuohu features wetland landscapes as its main attraction, combining both wetland and cultural elements, and possesses ecological, scientific, educational, other natural landscape, and historical-cultural values. The long-standing wetland farming civilization and profound “Nuowen (exorcism) culture” are prominently reflected in this area, endowing the wetland park with deep historical and cultural significance and expanding the cultural content of wetland eco-tourism. The proposed wetland park area is also a key forested region in Nanfeng County, where diverse forest types and well-preserved zonal vegetation, along with extremely rich forest flora and fauna, play an important role in protecting wild wetland plants and animals.
