The former site of the Red Army General Political Department in Shiyao is a cultural heritage protection unit of Jiangxi Province.

The former site of the Red Army General Political Department in Shiyao is located in Shiyao Village, Sanxi Township. In March 2018, it was designated as part of the sixth batch of provincial-level cultural heritage protection units in Jiangxi Province.

Shiyao Village: Shiyao Village is situated in the western part of Nanfeng County, 10 kilometers from the county seat and 7.5 kilometers from the seat of Sanxi Township. National Highway “Rao-San” runs through the village. The village currently has 288 households with a population of 1,102. It has 980 mu of arable land and 14,700 mu of forested area. The villagers of Shiyao are predominantly surnamed Wu, along with other mixed surnames such as Luo and Liu. They have lived here for generations, making a living through farming, and are known for their simple and honest folk customs.

Shiyao is renowned both at home and abroad for its Nuo dance and is honored as the “Hometown of Chinese Folk Art (Nuo Dance).” The Nuo dance of Shiyao has a long history and is both ancient and mysterious.
