Xiyin Temple

Xiyin Temple is situated on the western side of Wancong Town, approximately 6 kilometers from the town government center. It was initially constructed in the early years of the Zhenguan period of the Tang Dynasty, with a history spanning more than 1,400 years, making it one of the three major ancient temples in Le'an and a sacred Buddhist site that has stood for a thousand years. In the 11th year of the Shaoxing era of the Southern Song Dynasty (1141), Qiu Chao Hai from Chitou rebuilt the temple. For a time, it housed many monks and was widely celebrated. In 2008, with strong support from Chitou villagers, members of the Qiu clan, devotees, and followers from all over, the original temple underwent comprehensive renovation. A new Heavenly King Hall was built, a large bell and incense burner were acquired, and over 70 Buddha and deity statues were remolded or newly created, completely refreshing the temple’s interior and exterior appearance. In 2010, it was officially approved by the provincial authorities as an open Buddhist temple.

Xiyin Temple enjoys a beautiful environment and superior natural conditions. It remains warm in winter and cool in summer, spotlessly clean, with summer temperatures not exceeding 29 degrees Celsius. Known as a natural oxygen bar and often referred to as a "Little Lushan Mountain," it is a prime summer retreat destination. The mountain spring water at Xiyin Temple originates from deep within the mountains, flowing gently into the temple year-round without drying up. Laboratory tests have shown that it contains various essential elements such as calcium, iron, zinc, and selenium, making it a natural resource suitable for developing mineral water.

Wancong Town is located in the central hinterland of Jiangxi Province, in the southwest of Le'an County, Fuzhou City. It borders Huping Township to the east, looks north toward Niutian Town, neighbors Luobei Township to the south, and adjoins Yongfeng County to the west. The Changshao (Changning) Expressway G6011 passes through Wancong and features an exit named “Liukeng South.” Provincial Highway S215 Liushang Line (Liujiaqiao–Shanggu) runs north-south through the town.
