Juxing Tower

Juxing Tower is a national key cultural relics protection unit.

Juxing Tower is a provincial-level key cultural relic protection site. It was first built in the 42nd year of the Wanli era during the Ming Dynasty (1614) and renovated in the 19th year of the Qianlong era of the Qing Dynasty (1754). The tower stands 30 meters tall with seven stories and an octagonal shape. Its eaves are serrated, and the body of the tower tapers inward layer by layer as it rises, supported by stacked sections. The base bricks and stones were all laid using a mortar made from glutinous rice paste. The inner stairway is sandwiched between the inner and outer walls of the tower and winds upward in a left and right spiral. The entire tower was designed to lean slightly northward according to the terrain, wind direction, and wind force. Despite more than 200 years of weathering, it still stands firmly.

Juxing Tower is a hollow, seven-story, octagonal, flying-eave-style brick pagoda standing 30 meters tall. Its base is octagonal, with an outer diameter of 25.6 meters and an inner diameter of 6.8 meters at the base. The inner staircase is embedded within the brick walls and winds upward via two separate stone staircases on the left and right. Ancient craftsmen, considering the influence of the terrain, wind direction, and wind force on the tower’s structure, designed it to tilt slightly northward to maintain balance.
