Magu Mountain

Magu Mountain is located to the west of Nancheng County in Jiangxi Province, about ten li from the county town. The area boasts beautiful mountain scenery, lush forests, birdsong and floral fragrance, as well as abundant natural resources. In addition to the spectacular “Twin Jade Waterfalls,” there is also the immortal “Lu Gong Stele” that has been celebrated through the ages. Other famous sites include the “Halfway Pavilion,” “Fairy Capital Temple,” “Divine Power Spring,” “Dragon Gate Bridge,” “Danxia Cave,” where the fairyland still remains. As recorded in the Chronicles of Famous Mountains, “China has thirty-six grotto-heavens and seventy-two blessed lands scattered across the land, but only Magu Mountain possesses both a grotto-heaven and a blessed land, excelling in beauty in the southeast.”

The Magu Mountain Scenic Area is divided into:

Five major scenic zones: the Immortal Altar Wonderland Zone, the Mayuan Three Valleys Zone, the Danxia Blessed Land Zone, the Bamboo Sea & Pine Waves Zone, and the Drunken Immortal Lake Zone.

1. The Immortal Altar Wonderland Zone includes: the Fairy Capital Plaza, Reading Forest, Lu Gong Ancestral Hall, Longevity Corridor, and Three Loyalists Shrine.

2. The Danxia Blessed Land Zone includes: Danxia Temple, villas, and hotels.

3. The Drunken Immortal Lake Zone includes: Juehai Temple, ruins of the battlefield of the Eastern Army, rock carvings marking the site of the ancient Western Han county seat, cliff diving, bungee jumping, yachts, lakeside karaoke bars, wildlife park, hotels, docks, and more.

4. The Mayuan Three Valleys Zone features: the cliff carving “Laozi Is the Greatest Under Heaven,” the Laojun Temple, and the scenic area entrance. The Mayuan Three Valleys are situated at the foot of Magu Mountain and feature a variety of natural rock landscapes. Within the area lies a medium-sized reservoir — the Mayuan Reservoir, which is 6.5 kilometers from the county town. The reservoir area contains three islets surrounded by green hills and clear waters, making it a great leisure destination for visitors.

5. The Bamboo Sea & Pine Waves Zone includes: botanical garden, covered walkways, walking trails, and mountain-looping roads. The Magu Mountain Scenic Area was approved as a provincial-level key scenic spot by the provincial government in January 1991.

Nancheng has a subtropical monsoon humid climate. Spring brings concentrated rainfall with an average temperature of 15.8°C; summer is sunny with occasional thunderstorms and an average temperature of 27.9°C; autumn is crisp and clear with an average temperature of 19.9°C; winter occasionally sees snow and wind, with an average temperature of 6.6°C.

Jianchang Town: Jianchang Town is located on the banks of the Xujia River and at the foot of -Mountain, serving as the seat of the Nancheng County People’s Government. It is the political, economic, and cultural center of the county. The town covers an area of 124.3 square kilometers, with 27,206.63 mu of arable land (including 26,167.27 mu of paddy fields and 1,039.36 mu of dry land), 3,705.94 mu of water bodies, and 44,510.94 mu of mountainous land.
