Drunken Immortal Lake Water Conservancy Scenic Area is a national water conservancy scenic area.

Drunken Immortal Lake (formerly Hongmen Reservoir), known as the “Thousand-Island Lake” of eastern Jiangxi, is located 16 kilometers east of Nancheng County. With a water area of over 70 square kilometers, it features more than a thousand large and small islands and tens of thousands of acres of uniquely shaped Danxia landforms. The reservoir was once the site of Jianning Ancient City, the seat of Nancheng County during the Western Han Dynasty, and also houses an underwater tomb complex from the Ming Dynasty spanning 20 square kilometers, where nearly a thousand princes and descendants of the Yiprince of the seventh and eighth generations were buried. In recent years, experts have identified Hongmen Town as the birthplace of the Heaven and Earth Society (Hongmen), with nearby ancient Hongmen sites such as the “Bridge-Crossing” ritual, the Eternal Bridge, the Peaceful Bridge, stone pillars, and statues. This mysterious area has left numerous unsolved puzzles for archaeologists and Hongmen researchers, as well as sparking curiosity and excitement among visitors.

The scenic area is located in Nancheng County, Fuzhou City, and is built around Hongmen Reservoir. Covering an area of 114.97 square kilometers, including a water area of 46.45 square kilometers, it is a reservoir-type water conservancy scenic area.

Hongmen Reservoir has a total storage capacity of 1.2 billion cubic meters and is a large-scale reservoir integrating flood control, power generation, and irrigation. In recent years, the scenic area management has carried out water resource protection and aquatic ecological restoration initiatives, effectively preserving biodiversity and maintaining water quality at Class II. The area features typical Danxia landforms, with uniquely shaped rock formations such as Drunken Immortal Rock, Elephant Trunk Mountain, Thousand-Year Turtle, Immortal’s Handprint, Lion Mountain, Echo Wall, Golden Coast, Century’s Kiss, and Heaven’s Crack, each with its own distinctive charm.
