Wugang Mountain

(Wannian Bridge, Juxing Pagoda)

Wugang Mountain is located in the northeastern part of Jianchang Town, Nancheng County (within the urban planning area of the county town). The scenic area features the Wugang Mountain ruins as well as ancient Ming Dynasty structures Wannian Bridge and Juxing Pagoda. The Wugang Mountain ruins are the first Shang and Zhou cultural site excavated in Nancheng County. The site extends north and south along undulating hills, and the surface layer of the site contains various stamped pottery shards and stone tools, with the richest finds in the gully on the northern slope. This is sufficient evidence that the Xujian River attracted human habitation here over three thousand years ago, nurturing the earliest inhabitants of ancient Nancheng.

Wannian Bridge

Wannian Bridge was first built in the seventh year of the Chongzhen era of the Ming Dynasty (1634). It is the longest existing Ming Dynasty stone arch bridge in Jiangxi Province, a monumental structure in the history of Chinese bridges, and a provincial-level cultural relic protection unit. Juxing Pagoda was first built in the forty-second year of the Wanli era of the Ming Dynasty (1614). It is a rare leaning pagoda in Jiangxi Province, with seven stories and eight sides, and is a hollow, corbelled eave-style brick tower. Wannian Bridge and Taiping Bridge are praised as “Twin Rainbows Resting on the Waves” and are one of the Ten Scenic Spots of the Xujian River.
