Black Cloud Cliff

Located in a valley between Taiping Mountain and Mingyue Mountain, Black Cloud Cliff boasts towering peaks, steep cliffs, and sheer rock faces over 100 meters high, stretching across a valley more than 1,000 meters long. It gets its name because when rain is approaching, dark clouds gather over the rocks. Due to the high mountains and deep valleys, mist and clouds envelop the area year-round, giving visitors the sensation of standing amid an endless sea of clouds. Thousand-year-old ancient pines of various shapes grow in the crevices of the cliffs, adding unique charm to Black Cloud Cliff. On the western side of the cliff lies a waterfall stretching over 200 meters in total. The rushing water sometimes thunders down with a deafening roar, cascading from great heights, while at other times it flows gently with barely a sound, forming deep pools. The cliffs on both sides of the waterfall are densely forested, and along the ridges are several rock formations that appear man-made but are actually natural—some resemble the Buddha playing with a monkey, others a child worshipping Guanyin, and some look like the Monkey King’s golden cudgel standing upright. The valley is often enshrouded in thick mist and roiling clouds, resembling a heavenly paradise on earth.
