Nanzhao Town: The Nationwide Martial Arts Hometown — Nanzhao Township

Nanzhao Township is located in the southern suburbs of Yichun City, Jiangxi Province. According to historical records, it was named Nanzhao (meaning “South Temple”) due to the many temples in the area. It lies 12 kilometers from the city center, bordered by Xinfang Township to the east, Huti Township to the west, and the Mingyue Mountain Scenic Area to the south, making it the southern gateway to Yuanzhou District of Yichun City. The township governs 11 administrative villages with a total population of 20,000, including 5,000 in the town center. The township covers an area of 79 square kilometers, with 21,000 mu of arable land and 4,500 hectares of forest. As early as the 1970s, Nanzhao was established as a national commodity grain production base. In the 1980s, it was among the first to be designated as a national martial arts hometown.
