Huacheng Chan Temple (Huacheng Rock)
Huacheng Chan Temple (Huacheng Rock) is a cultural tourism attraction.
The Zen forest is one of the most distinctive historical and cultural features of Yichun. The epoch-making events in Buddhist history — "Mazu establishing a monastery" and "Baizhang formulating monastic rules" — both took place in Yichun City.
The predecessor of Yichun Huacheng Chan Temple (abbreviated as "Huacheng Temple") was formed by the merging of two temples: the upper rock was called Kaihua Monastery, and the lower rock was called Huizhao Monastery, dating back over 1,200 years. A Song Dynasty poet, Zhao Shanjian, once wrote: "Monks dwell up and down the cliffs, temple bells echo dawn and dusk." The temple site was known as the "Evening Bell of Huacheng," which was one of the ancient “Eight Scenic Spots of Yichun” during the Yuanzhou Prefecture era.
