Tomb of Liu Shenxu

The Tomb of Liu Shenxu is a cultural relic protection unit of Jiangxi Province.

The Tomb of Liu Shenxu is the burial site of the great Tang Dynasty poet Liu Shenxu. It is located on the slopes of Yunshan'ao, opposite Miaozhuangping in Taoyuan Village, Shuikou Township, Jing'an County, Jiangxi Province. The tomb is situated at the "Three-Legged Golden Star" formation, facing the direction of Wei-Chou. About 16 kilometers from the county seat, it was discovered in March 1982 by local cultural relics officials and is now a provincial-level key protected heritage site. The tomb has a stone monument at the entrance pathway but no raised burial mound. Although it has been robbed multiple times, the stone-framed tomb tablet remains intact. The tomb is built against the mountain with a flat area in the middle, but the gravestone is positioned at the front of the entrance. In the center of the tablet is inscribed: “Tomb of Liu Shenxu, Scholar of the Tang Dynasty, Courtesy Name Quanyi, Alias Yixuan (with mother Xiangshi written to the right).” Analysis suggests that this is a joint tomb of Liu Shenxu and his wife. On the right side of the tablet is inscribed: “Late Tang Minister of Rites, Jia Wanyanzhang, respectfully composed and wrote the eulogy.” On the left side is inscribed: “Son Binren, descendants of the traveler family too numerous to fully list, descendants of the Tengkong Changgang branch re-erected this, tomb site chosen at Taoyuan’s Yunshan’ao, facing Wei-Chou, established on the Cold Food Day of the 12th Year of the Tongzhi Reign in the Qing Dynasty (Year of Guiyou).”
