Sanzhaolun is a national AAAA-level tourist attraction and a national forest park.

Sanzhaolun is one of China’s national model forest parks, covering an area of 182,000 mu. With its picturesque scenery and pleasant climate, Sanzhaolun National Forest Park is located on the eastern foothills of the Jiuling Mountain Range in Jing’an County, Jiangxi Province. It lies to the east of Nanchang, north of Jiujiang, and just 50 kilometers from the Beijing-Kowloon Railway, making it an ideal destination for tourism and summer retreat.

Sanzhaolun is Jiangxi Province’s only national model forest park and a national AAA-level tourist area. Located in Jing’an County, it is also home to China’s only Giant Salamander hometown, China’s Tangerine Capital, China’s Land of Poetry, and a national ecological demonstration county. It is 80 km from Nanchang, 160 km from Jiujiang, 60 km from Changbei International Airport, and 50 km from the Changjiu Expressway. The area boasts beautiful mountains and clear waters, picturesque scenery, a pleasant climate, stunning natural landscapes, numerous cultural sites, and abundant wildlife and plant resources. Rare birds, animals, exotic flowers, and trees are found everywhere. It is an ideal destination for leisure vacations, sightseeing, entertainment, summer retreat, and convalescence. Zeng Gong, one of the “Eight Great Prose Masters of the Tang and Song Dynasties,” praised it as “Although it is just a county of a thousand households, it lies amidst the purity of nature.”

Sanzhaolun is situated on the eastern foothills of the Jiuling Mountain Range and gets its name from its three branches that stretch out in a "claw" shape, along with its rugged terrain. The scenic area covers a total of 193 square kilometers and consists of eight major scenic zones: Beiriver, Baofeng Temple, Panlong Lake, Luojiaping, Huxiaoxia, Guanyinyan, Baishuidong, and Jinluowan, as well as two independent attractions: Kuangzhong Garden and Leijia Ancient Village. The forest coverage rate in the area reaches 95.7%, ranking among the top in the nation for its first-class ecological environment, earning it the title “Green Treasure House.” With negative oxygen ion levels exceeding 100,000 per cm³, the air is exceptionally fresh and rare across the country, offering great benefits to human health, hence it is also known as a “Natural Oxygen Bar.” The average annual temperature ranges from 13.7°C to 17.5°C, making it comfortably pleasant and thus also called a “Leisure Destination.” The area features undulating mountains, vast forests, towering ancient trees, dense peculiar rocks, crystal-clear pools and waterfalls, and breathtaking lake-and-mountain views.

There are 93 national-level scenic spots, including 10 first-tier, 36 second-tier, and 47 third-tier attractions; there are 13 peaks over 1,500 meters and over 100 peaks above 1,000 meters, with the highest being Jiulingjian at 1,794 meters. The area is home to three Class I protected animals—the clouded leopard, leopard, and white-necked long-tailed pheasant—as well as 28 Class II protected animals and 1,805 species of vascular plants. Highlights include the rippling waters and mountain-surrounded Panlong Lake, the green-shaded Beiriver with clear waters reflecting the forest, ancient camphor forests with giant vines hanging down, the majestic and steep Tianyashan Mountain, the serene and secluded Nanshan Valley, the uniquely scenic Shenxian Valley, the waterfall-connected Guanyinyan, the rugged and oddly shaped rock formations of Huxiaoxia, the peak-ringed Lion’s Mouth in Hongping, the pearl-spraying Baishuidong Waterfall, the vividly shaped Fairy Bath Waterfall, the lush primeval forests, the bamboo-rich Taipingzhou, the Luowan Underground War-Preparedness Power Plant—one of only two such facilities in the country—and an industrial tourism base. There are also thrilling activities such as rafting through pristine forests with an average drop of over 100 meters, relaxing bamboo raft drifting, speeding on jet skis, high-altitude water skiing, grass sledding down Phoenix Slope, zip-lining across the valley, as well as fruit picking, tangerine harvesting, watching Giant Salamanders, mountain hiking and exploration, camping in tents, bonfire parties, and delicious barbecues for endless fun.

The park features numerous striking peaks, dense peculiar rocks, flowing springs and waterfalls, winding streams, as well as magnificent clouds and rosy clouds. The misty and majestic Daotianya stands tall and steep, while the thunderous Baishuidong Waterfall sprays pearls and splashes jade. Hongping Lion’s Mouth resembles a crouching lion with peaks encircling it like a screen. The Luojiaping primeval forest is filled with a dazzling array of precious animal species and tree varieties. Xiaowan Water Park is dotted with green waters and picturesque all year round; rafting on the Zhiriver and boating on the Dazi River offer a true taste of the charm of “emerald waters and red mountains.”

The natural scenery of Sanzhaolun is not only remarkable for its landscape but also boasts many historic and cultural relics. These include the ancient Baofeng Temple and Matou Pavilion, the final resting place of Tang Dynasty Buddhist Zen Master Mazu Daoyi and his stupa; the tomb of the Ming Dynasty upright official Kuang Zhong; the residences of Tang Dynasty poet Liu Shengxu and Qing Dynasty female poet Shu Baixiang, as well as Qing Dynasty ancient stages and the former site of the Soviet Government—over a hundred historical sites, ancient buildings, revolutionary relics, and cultural attractions that immerse visitors in a grand historical garden and leave them lingering. The area has convenient transportation with roads extending in all directions, and hotels and guesthouses are fully equipped. It is home to the thousand-year-old Baofeng Temple, where the abbot is personally appointed by the current president of the Buddhist Association of China, as well as the hometown of Kuang Zhong, one of the ancient “Three Upright Officials.” It is also a paradise covered in forests, offering activities such as canyon adventure rafting, primitive bamboo raft drifting, paintball combat, high-altitude grass sledding, aerial zip-lining, water skiing, space balls, jet ski surfing, banana boat rides, large-scale water amusement centers, rock climbing, outdoor expansion programs, tangerine picking, whole lamb barbecues, and bonfire parties.
