Ancient Kiln Site at Yaji Mountain

The Ancient Kiln Site at Yaji Mountain is a cultural heritage site protected by Jiangxi Province.

Located on Yaji Mountain in Dongyuan Township, Jing’an County, the ancient kiln site was established during the Southern Song Dynasty, flourished in the Yuan Dynasty, and declined by the Ming Dynasty. According to the Hu Family Genealogy from Naoshang Village in Zhongyuan Township, during the mid-Southern Song Dynasty, a local man named Hu Wenjing built the first porcelain kiln on Yaji Mountain. The kiln site is 3 kilometers west of Naoshang and 86 kilometers from the county seat. There are two sections of the site: Upper Mountain and Lower Mountain. The Upper Mountain area mostly features remnants of stacked firing combinations and porcelain shards. The Lower Mountain has deposits from stacked firing and remains of superimposed firing. The Yaji Mountain kilns mainly produced celadon-white porcelain, along with some celadon. The products were mostly everyday utensils for civilian use. The body of the ceramics is fine and sturdy, in light gray color. The celadon-white glaze has a bluish-gray tint. The main vessel shapes include cups, bowls, saucers, jars, basins, and tall-footed cups.
