Meibei Ancient Village is a national AAAA-level tourist attraction.

Meibei Village is located in Wenbei Township, Qingyuan District, Ji’an City, Jiangxi Province, and has a history of nearly a thousand years. Here, the developed ancient commercial civilization blends seamlessly with red culture. The grand Ming and Qing dynasty architecture stands row upon row; countless stone carvings, wood carvings, painted artworks, couplets, plaques, and carved screens all subtly reflect the extraordinary wisdom and lifestyle interests of the people of Luling, showcasing the profound and extensive elegance of Luling culture, while also recording the vicissitudes of this historic red land.

Meibei Ancient Village is situated on the banks of the Fushui River in the southeastern part of Qingyuan District, Ji’an City, Jiangxi Province, about 30 kilometers from Ji’an city center. It belongs to Wenbei Township of Qingyuan District, covering an area of approximately one square kilometer. The village preserves relatively intact imprints of ancient and modern culture. These precious historical remains are rich in cultural connotations and truly breathtaking, which is why Meibei enjoys widespread fame. Meibei Village is a Luling cultural ancient village in Ji’an City, where 367 well-preserved ancient buildings from the Ming and Qing dynasties still stand. It also houses the former headquarters of the Fourth Red Army, the site of the “2.7” Meeting, Mao Zedong’s former residence, and the former residence of Zeng Shan. There is also an ancient street in the village. The village has produced many talented individuals, including three generals of the People’s Republic of China: General Liang Xingchu, General Liang Biye, and General Liang Renjie. The most magnificent ancestral hall in Meibei Village is undoubtedly the Liang Clan Ancestral Hall – Yongmu Hall. The Liang family is the largest clan in the village, so their ancestral hall is naturally the most eye-catching building in the village. This structure was first built during the Song Dynasty, and has undergone multiple reconstructions, yet it still retains an elegant, simple, majestic, and splendid appearance. The ancestral hall features soaring upturned eaves and is a two-story, three-courtyard brick-and-wood structure. Its tall bracket arms still carry the grandeur of the past. However, it is said that there were once exquisitely carved beam brackets here, all of which were destroyed during certain historical periods — truly a pity. Only on the walls on both sides of the central hall are written four large characters: “Loyalty, Trust, Sincerity, and Respect,” each character being as tall as two people — the imposing presence of which is enough to leave one in awe. In the ancestral hall, each pillar is inscribed with a couplet rich in deep meaning, from which a profound cultural essence emanates.

Transportation

Ji’an City is divided into Qingyuan District and Jizhou District. The two districts are separated by the Gan River. Buses No. 2 and No. 10 travel between the two districts. Qingyuan Bus Station – Xinwei, Meibei (6:00–17:00, ticket price 8 yuan, minibuses, manual ticketing, wait at the station exit, departure times may vary, at the archway gate of the ancient village) Meibei – Ji’an: Flag down passing buses on the main road at the entrance of the village. Buses passing by all go to Ji’an, available until 5:30 pm, but you must wave clearly at a visible roadside spot; otherwise, they’ll speed right past.
