Gongmen Bridge

Gongmen Bridge is located south of Sanhui Peak in the scenic area of Yusu Mountain, a renowned tourist destination in Xiajiang, approximately 1 kilometer east of Wangjia Village, Louwude Village Committee, Fumin Township, and about 13 kilometers from the county seat.

Originally built in the ninth year of the Jiading era of the Song Dynasty (1216), it derives its name from being situated in front of the gate of the “Wanshou Chengtian Palace.” The bridge spans a mountain stream, running from north to south, with a length of 6.3 meters and a width of 4.85 meters. It is a single-arch stone bridge with a clear span of 3 meters and a rise of 2 meters. The arch is composed of 11 rows, each with 9 stones, constructed using a vertical-laid method with granite blocks measuring 60 cm in length and 40 cm in width. The bottom stones of the arch are inscribed with 15 characters: “嘉定九年丙子岁仲夏宫门鼎新建造” (Reconstructed at Gongmen in the height of summer, the sixth year of Jiading, 1216). The inscription is in regular script, with each character about 15 cm tall. With a history of over 700 years, it is the only ancient Song Dynasty bridge in the county with an accurate date of construction and remains well-preserved. In May 1998, it was listed as part of the second batch of county-level cultural relics protection units, and in July 2000, it was included in the fourth batch of provincial-level cultural relics protection units by the Jiangxi Provincial People's Government.
