The Temple of Soaring Clouds and Galloping Winds is located south of Yuanyang Peak on Yuzhi Mountain, five kilometers from the county town. Originally named Yunchu Temple and also known as the Southern Temple, it was first built in the sixth year of the Tianbao era of the Tang Dynasty (747). During the reign of Emperor Zhenzong of the Song Dynasty, it was bestowed the name “Soaring Clouds and Galloping Winds.” A Xianjue Tower (also called the Dream Tower) was later added behind the temple to enshrine a reclining statue of the Taoist sage Chen (Xiyi) from Mount Hua.
