Lujiazhou is a national AA-level tourist attraction.

Lujiazhou is located on an oasis formed at the confluence of the Lu River and the He River, within the territory of Qulai Town, Jizhou District. Covering an area of about 800 acres, it is the settlement of descendants of Lu Zhao, the top imperial scholar of Jiangxi during the Tang Dynasty. The village was established in the Ming Dynasty and is famed for its “Three Treasures”: ancient pines, the Jade Ancestral Hall, and the Leaning Pagoda.

Lujiazhou now has over 140 households and more than 600 residents, with 103 residential buildings, including 63 structures from the Ming and Qing dynasties. These consist of 5 ancestral halls, 4 academies, 4 temples, and 50 ancient residences. These Ming and Qing-era buildings all feature the distinctive Jiangnan hip-and-gable style, with soaring firewalls and upturned horse-head walls. Interiors are adorned with either elaborate caisson ceilings, gilded floral or narrative carvings, gilded family mottos, or even decorative gateways with bracket sets. A variety of ornamental techniques such as carving, etching, molding, plastering, and filling showcase exquisite craftsmanship. The village also retains two ancient wells with chamfered square mouths, built from large bluestone slabs. One well is deep and large, the other shallow and small — the sound made when drawing water from each differs greatly, leading locals to call them the “Drum Well” and the “Gong Well.” Situated at the confluence of the Lu and He rivers, Lujiazhou features a spacious stone-built wharf to the west, offering convenient water transport. To beautify their homeland, enhance security, and improve water access, the Lu family dug an interconnected water system around the village, channeling water from Wanshuolong Stream into the settlement. This not only facilitated farmland irrigation and daily washing but also maintained a constant flow of fresh water, transforming the hilly region into a picturesque water town. It reflects the village’s design philosophy: self-contained, achieving grandeur within a small space, seeking variation within tranquility, and ensuring both seclusion and accessibility.
