Longgang Tricolor Scenic Area
Longgang Tricolor Scenic Area — Longgang is located at the southernmost part of the county, bordering Xingguo to the south, Shanggu to the north, Junbu to the east, and Tan Tou Township and Ji’an County to the west. During the Second Revolutionary Civil War, it was an important part of the Central Soviet Area and the main battlefield where the First Front Red Army crushed the first large-scale “encirclement and suppression” campaign launched by the Nationalist Government forces against the Central Soviet Area. The area contains numerous revolutionary heritage sites and former residences of veteran proletarian revolutionaries.
Wanguard Mountain
Located southwest of Chenggong Village in Longgang Township, at an elevation of 350 meters. On the afternoon of December 30, 1930, more than 9,000 troops of the 18th Division of the Nationalist Government Army, who were launching the first “encirclement and suppression” campaign against the First Front Red Army, were completely annihilated at Maojiaping at the foot of the mountain. Division Commander Zhang Huizan of the 18th Division was captured alive in the Shuixi Cave halfway up the mountain. Over 9,000 weapons and one wireless radio were seized, marking the first time the First Front Red Army possessed such a radio. In 1969, the county built a monument on the mountain top. The monument is shaped like a red flag, facing northwest and standing 3 meters wide and approximately 3.5 meters tall. From this vantage point, one can see a red flag standing out vividly amidst the lush green peaks of Wanguard Mountain, its glow inspiring deep reflection.
Anti-Encirclement Exhibition Hall
The Central Soviet Area First Front Red Army Anti-First Large-Scale “Encirclement and Suppression” Exhibition Hall is situated on the western side of Longgang Street and was completed in November 1976. The hall consists of three parts: exhibition rooms, gardens, and dormitories, with a total construction area of 825 square meters. It features a brick-and-wood structure and a pink water-washed sand facade. The exhibition rooms include both images and texts, as well as various physical exhibits, showcasing the course of the anti-“encirclement and suppression” battles — from the Luofang Conference to the Dongshao Battle, especially the Battle of Longgang — making it an excellent site for cadres and the public to receive revolutionary tradition education.
Martyrs’ Memorial Tower and Pavilion
Located atop Chengtuo Fort in the north of Longgang Market, the southern side of the mountain has a cement staircase leading up to the summit. The tower is constructed of blue strip stones, with a bluestone floor surrounding it and reinforced concrete railings. The tower is square-shaped, 2.1 meters wide on each side, with a total height of 12.5 meters and a base height of 5.1 meters. The southern face of the tower is inscribed with the ten large characters: “Eternal Glory to the Martyrs Who Sacrificed Heroically,” while the northern face bears seven large characters: “Revolutionary Martyrs Memorial Tower.”
About 50 meters away from the tower, on the southern mountainside, there is a pavilion-style memorial pavilion. The lintel of the main (southern) gate is inscribed with the words “Enduring Noble Spirit,” while the northern lintel is inscribed with “Carry Forward the Cause and Forge Ahead.”
The tower and pavilion were built in 1958, renovated twice in 1963 and 1973, rebuilt in 1980, and designated as a county-level cultural relics protection unit in 1983.
Huangzhuling
Located in Xiaobie, Junbu, at an elevation of 424.7 meters, the teahouse halfway up the hill served as the command post for the First Front Red Army during the first anti-“encirclement and suppression” Battle of Longgang. In the early hours of December 30, 1930, the Third Red Army, Fourth Red Army, Tenth Red Army, and Third Red Army Corps were ordered to move toward Longgang. Mao Zedong, [name missing], and Chief of Staff Guo Huaruo of the headquarters came here to command the world-shocking first anti-“encirclement and suppression” Battle of Longgang. In 1969, a monument was erected on the high flat ground behind and to the right of the command post.
The Huangzhuling Teahouse was designated as a provincial-level cultural relics protection unit in December 1987.
Jinniudong Academy
Located in Maoping Village, Longgang She Ethnic Township. During the Ming Dynasty’s Chenghua era, Luo Lun (courtesy name Zhengyi, alias Shuixin, native of Shuitian in Yaotian, who became the top scholar in the second year of the Chenghua reign and once served as an editor in the Hanlin Academy) built several thatched huts in Jinniudong in the eleventh year of the Chenghua reign and founded the Jinniu Academy. Scholars came from all directions, numbering in the thousands. Though called a “dong” (cave), it is actually a mountain stream — narrow outside but spacious inside, resembling a cloth sack. Viewed from afar, it indeed looks like a cave. Directly opposite the mountain stream, seven rocks gather on the hillside, known as the “Seven-Star Gemstones.” The mountain behind is gear-shaped, with a small central peak slightly higher, resembling Guanyin sitting on a lotus throne — hence people call it “Guanyin Sitting on Lotus.” To the left is a mountain that looks like a kneeling ox, called “Golden Ox Bowing Down.” To the right is a mountain resembling a red-crowned crane standing proudly, hence named “White Crane Soaring to the Sky.”
