A month ago, I just climbed Snow Mountain’s Big and Small Sword Peaks with my fellow mountaineers. This was also the 60th "Hundred Peak" mountain that Sally Liu, fund manager of Yuanta Global Investment Grade Bond Fund, has conquered.
According to Taiwan’s mountaineering community, the "Hundred Peaks" are 100 Taiwanese mountains with elevations above 3,000 meters, known for their rugged beauty, steepness, grandeur, and distinctive shapes. For climbers, conquering all Hundred Peaks is the lifelong dream of many.

Gaining Insights into Investing Through Mountain Climbing
Since starting to climb in 2003, Sally Liu, now addicted to the sport over the past seven years, says that mountain climbing is about taking it one step at a time — moving slowly and not rushing. This habit has taught her to slow down and rethink when facing challenges, making her less impulsive. The more treacherous the environment, the calmer and more determined she needs to be to press forward. Moreover, the rigorous physical training before climbing prepares her to handle sudden bad weather — just like in investing, where a solid understanding and research into the financial environment and risks are crucial. Both are long-term physical tests of endurance that require not only good stamina but also perseverance and willpower to complete.
Aside from drastic weather changes and not being in ideal physical condition, it was also a "single push" (a one-day summit attempt). With just a few kilometers left to reach the top, she almost gave up because her stamina was nearly depleted. But thanks to the encouragement and support of her teammates, who walked with her to the finish line, she pushed through.
Sally believes this highlights the importance of having good teammates. The same goes for the journey of investing — especially in the unpredictable financial markets, where no one can claim full control over market movements. Therefore, teamwork becomes essential. Although Sally only joined Yuanta Securities’ Fixed Income Investment Team in May this year, she has over 12 years of experience in investment research in fixed income, new financial products, and risk management. She insists on managing investors' money as if it were her own, dedicating herself to every penny entrusted to her. Thus, when she took over the management of the Yuanta Global Bond Portfolio Fund, by the end of October — just six months into its operation — it delivered impressive results.
