Former Site of the General Headquarters of the First Front Red Army in Junbu

The former site of the General Headquarters of the First Front Red Army in Junbu is a National Key Cultural Relics Protection Unit.

The former site of the General Headquarters of the First Front Red Army at Wanshou Palace is located in the center of Laoxu Village, Junbu Township, Yongfeng County. Originally built in the mid-Qing Dynasty, it was repeatedly destroyed and rebuilt over time. The existing structure was renovated during the Republican era, covering a total area of 663 square meters.

On December 29, 1930, Mao Zedong, Zhu De, and others, along with the General Headquarters of the First Front Red Army, arrived in Junbu from Huangpi and Xiaobu in Ningdu. The headquarters was stationed inside Wanshou Palace, where an emergency meeting of cadres above the military level was held that evening to analyze the enemy situation and issue the “Order to Attack the Advancing Enemy—Zhang Huizan’s 18th Division at Longgang.” The next day, the first battle of the counter-“encirclement and suppression” campaign at Longgang broke out at Xiaobieling in Junbu. After fierce fighting, the Red Army completely annihilated over 9,000 troops of the enemy's 18th Division in the Wan Gong Mountain area of Longgang, capturing Division Commander and frontline supreme commander Zhang Huizan, achieving a complete victory in the first counter-“encirclement and suppression” campaign.

In October 1983, the site was listed as a County-Level Key Cultural Relics Protection Unit. In 1987, it was approved and announced by the Jiangxi Provincial People's Government as a Jiangxi Provincial Cultural Relics Protection Unit. The site is now well-preserved and open to the public as a red tourism attraction.

In May 2013, the State Council (State Council Document [2013] No. 13) designated the former site of the General Headquarters of the First Front Red Army in Junbu as part of the seventh batch of National Key Cultural Relics Protection Units.
