Anti-First “Encirclement Campaign” Memorial Hall

The Anti-First “Encirclement Campaign” Memorial Hall is located in Longgang She Ethnic Township, Yongfeng County, Ji’an City. It was first built in 1977, with the eight large characters “A single spark can start a prairie fire” inlaid on both sides of the front facade. The main exhibits are divided into sections covering military strategy, the battle process, revolutionary figures, and revolutionary events. The hall is staffed with professional guides and has four exhibition rooms.

During the Second Revolutionary Civil War period, Longgang, a settlement area of the She ethnic group, was the main battlefield and victory memorial site of the Central Red Army’s Anti-First “Encirclement Campaign.” On December 30, 1930, under the strategic guidance of Comrade Mao Zedong’s “luring the enemy in deep” policy, the main forces of the Red Army engaged in fierce combat with the attacking 18th Division of the Nationalist Party in Longgang, achieving a great victory that dealt a powerful blow to the arrogance of the reactionary Kuomintang. During this battle, the She and Han people of Longgang united closely, supporting the Red Army in various ways in the fight against the “encirclement campaign.” A number of She martyrs emerged, including Lei Zengyou and Lei Huasheng. The victory at Longgang inspired many young She and Han people to join the army, with numerous locals from Longgang enlisting in the Red Army. Among the martyrs who sacrificed heroically during the revolutionary war and whose names are recorded, there were 591 from Longgang, including 65 She people, while countless others remain unnamed. Among the Longgang She youths who participated in the Long March, 12 completed the full 25,000-li journey.

Today, Longgang She Ethnic Township is actively building a national brand centered on “red history, blue culture, and green economy,” striving to build a harmonious society and promote ethnic unity, in memory of the revolutionary martyrs and to let the monument of heroes shine anew in the new era.
