The former site of the First Congress of the Communist Party of China in Southwestern Jiangxi, namely the ancestral hall of the Hu family (Dunren Hall) in Pixia, Tanxi, was built during the Chenghua era of the Ming Dynasty and occupies a construction area of 2,700 square meters. The name of the hall and its couplets were inscribed by Liu Yi, the top scholar of the Qing Dynasty. The ancestral hall is grand in scale, ingeniously designed, rationally laid out, and masterfully constructed. In September 1929, the Chinese Workers’ and Peasants’ Red Army School was officially established here, with Zhu De serving as the president and Mao Zedong as the political commissar, who also personally gave lectures to the students. It was later relocated to Zhuying Hall within the village to continue its operations. From March 22 to 29, 1930, in accordance with the spirit of the “February 7th Meeting,” the First Congress of the Communist Party of Southwestern Jiangxi was convened here. The congress elected the Southwest Jiangxi Special Committee and reorganized the Southwest Jiangxi Soviet Government, with Zeng Shan appointed as the chairman. This congress marked the formal establishment of the revolutionary base area in southwestern Jiangxi, ushering in a new phase in the region’s revolutionary struggle and holding significant historical importance.
