Ji'an Museum

Ji'an Museum was founded in 1969 and is located at No. 80 Yongshu Road in the downtown area. The museum was established in 1969 on Yongshu Road. In 1998, due to urban redevelopment, the original museum building was demolished and it was relocated to No. 7 West Xiao Family Lane, the former residence of Comrades Mao Zedong and Zhu De. On June 18, 2014, it moved to the new urban district in the southern part of Ji'an City, and in 2018, it was designated as a National Third-Class Museum. Ji'an Museum is a comprehensive museum integrating exhibition display, public education, research and collection, and social exchange. It covers an area of 32.85 acres, with a total construction area of 13,000 square meters, an exhibition area of 6,000 square meters, and over 1,000 meters of exhibition space. The museum oversees four permanently open sites: the New Hall of Ji'an Museum, the Former Residences of Zhu De and Mao Zedong, the Folk Culture Expo Garden, and the Ji'an Luling Folk Museum.

Ji'an Museum currently has six permanent exhibition halls. Using a combination of chronological and thematic displays, and through the organic integration of content and form, along with modern exhibition techniques, it presents a series of themed exhibitions including A Brief History of Ji'an, The Bronze Kingdom, Famous Kilns of Jizhou, A Notable Prefecture of the South, The Cradle of the Red Revolution, and Contemporary Ji'an. These comprehensively showcase the rich cultural heritage and socio-economic development achievements of Ji'an City.

The A Brief History of Ji'an exhibition provides a chronological overview briefly introducing topics such as Ancient Relics, the Establishment of Luling in the Qin Dynasty, the Founding of Jizhou in the Sui Dynasty, and Ji'an in the Yuan Dynasty. It uses artifacts from different periods to illustrate the development of the city’s historical culture. The The Bronze Kingdom exhibition focuses on relics unearthed from the Shang Dynasty tomb at Dayangzhou in Xingan, using bronze ritual vessels, weapons, tools, and musical instruments to unveil the mysteries of the Bronze Age in the southern region. The Famous Kilns of Jizhou exhibition highlights the largest number and variety of Jizhou kiln products nationwide. It utilizes a large number of cultural relics and specimens to showcase the glorious history of the famous Jizhou kiln, a renowned folk kiln site of China during the Tang and Song dynasties. The A Notable Prefecture of the South exhibition presents the profound Luling culture through themes such as the Golden Waterway, Three Thousand Scholars, High Literary and Ethical Standards, and Prominent Luling Families. The The Cradle of the Red Revolution exhibition combines physical objects with reconstructed scenes to depict the magnificent revolutionary struggles of Jinggangshan and the Central Soviet Area. The Contemporary Ji'an exhibition uses a wealth of photographic materials to showcase the city’s remarkable achievements since the reform and opening-up, especially in recent years.

The exhibition themes are distinctive, systematically organizing and refining the rich historical and cultural resources that Ji'an has harbored from ancient times to the present. From the bronze artifacts of Xingan to the millennia-old firing tradition of the Jizhou Kiln, from the patriotism and literary integrity of past scholars to the timeless Jinggangshan spirit, the exhibition prominently displays Ji'an’s representative cultural symbols and related cultural relics. It highlights the various cultural peaks in the history of Luling culture and traces their path to contemporary brilliance. It showcases the spirit of Ji'an’s cultural forebears, who upheld cultural innovation and moral integrity in times of peace or national crisis, forming a pillar of national cultural confidence. In the great journey of national rejuvenation in the new era, this spirit becomes part of the country’s soft power, passed on from generation to generation and celebrated forever.
