As a continuation site of the revolutionary struggle in Jinggangshan, Meibei still preserves many red historical sites and cultural relics from the war years. It was once the location of the Southwest Jiangxi Soviet Government and the Jiangxi Provincial Soviet Government. The former site of the Red Fourth Army headquarters, the former sites of the Southwest Jiangxi Soviet Government and the Jiangxi Provincial Soviet Government, Mao Zedong’s former residence, Zhu De’s former residence, and five other provincial and municipal-level cultural heritage sites are located here. In addition, there are over ten other red revolutionary residences and sites such as the former site of the General Trade Union of the Jiangxi Provincial Soviet Government, Huang Gonglue’s former residence, and Zeng Shan’s former residence, along with more than 180 surviving red slogans from the period. Four generals of the People’s Republic of China came from Meibei village, including Lieutenant Generals Liang Xingchu, commander of the 38th Army — hailed as the “Army of the Eternal Life” by Commander Peng Dehuai — and Liang Biye, the political commissar. Many films and TV dramas, such as "The Shining Red Star," "The Break," "Chen Yi Comes Out of the Mountains," and "Jinggangshan," were filmed in the village, earning Meibei the titles of “Generals’ Village” and “Movie Village.”
