Great Sage Temple Pagoda

The Great Sage Temple Pagoda is a cultural relic protection unit of Jiangxi Province.

The Great Sage Temple Pagoda in Ganzhou stands in the northern part of the county town. It is a nine-story, hexagonal structure over 50 meters tall, majestic and spectacular. It is said to have been built during the Chiwu era of the Wu Kingdom in the Three Kingdoms period and was listed as a provincial-level cultural relic protection unit after the founding of the People’s Republic of China; the Shangle Pagoda, built in Shangle Village on Youshan Mountain, is a Ming Dynasty structure, 29 meters high with five stories and a hexagonal shape. During the three-year guerrilla war along the Guangdong–Jiangxi–Hunan border, it served as...; Xianji Rock, located at Miaobei Village at the southern foot of Gushan Mountain in Zhengping Township west of the county, is a Ming Chenghua-era structure. The rock features carved stone chambers and a Buddhist hall, surrounded by lush ancient trees and offering pleasant scenery. It has milky spring water, and during spring and autumn, it is one of the main tourist destinations for local residents; the Jade Belt Bridge, dramatically spanning the Hushan River, boasts a unique structure and imposing presence, and is widely renowned. Built in the fifth year of the Qianlong reign during the Qing Dynasty (1740), the bridge remains solid and intact after more than 200 years; the Anshang Water Pavilion in Anshang Village, Xiaojiang Township, built during the Jiaqing reign of the Qing Dynasty, is a four-story tower-like pavilion over 18 meters tall, showcasing exquisite craftsmanship; the former residence of Mao Zedong, located on Zhangwuling in the eastern suburbs of the county town, is a hall-style civilian house with a brick-and-wood structure covering an area of 70 square meters. It now serves as the site of the Memorial Hall for the Three-Year Guerrilla War along the Guangdong–Jiangxi Border. There are also the former site of the Gannan Special Committee at Shanxu Village on Youshan Mountain and the former training class site of the Gannan Special Committee at Jiuhunao.
