You Shan Guerrilla Transport Station - Shang Le Pagoda

An underground transport station of the Red Army guerrillas — Shang Le Pagoda. Located in Shang Le Village, You Shan Town, it is a hexagonal five-story brick pagoda built during the Ming Dynasty, standing 29 meters tall with a slight eastward lean.

After the Long March of the Red Army, the guerrillas used this site as a secret contact point for the transport station, exchanging or forwarding large amounts of intelligence materials and political teaching materials. After liberation, revolutionary relics such as hidden Red Army supplies and mimeograph machines were discovered buried here (the Red Army or underground party members would hide intelligence inside movable bricks).

When the guerrillas moved on, they hid ammunition, documents, and mimeograph equipment inside the pagoda walls or buried them beneath the pagoda. Shang Le Pagoda became the lifeline of the Gan-Yue Border Special Committee and the guerrillas.

On the path leading to Shang Le Pagoda, there are small characters spelled out with pebbles that read: “Carry forward the revolutionary tradition, strive for greater glory.”

You Shan Town: Located in the northwest of Xinfeng County, Jiangxi Province, You Shan Town borders Xiniu Town and Da’a Town of Xinfeng County to the east, Zhengping Town of Xinfeng County to the south, You Shan Town and Kongjiang Township of Xiong Prefecture, Guangdong Province to the west, and Chijiang Town of Dayu County and Longhui Town of Nankang City to the north. You Shan is a veteran revolutionary base area and was the central zone of the three-year guerrilla warfare in the Gan-Yue border region conducted by the Central Red Army. Veteran revolutionaries such as Xiang Ying, Chen Yi, Chen Pixian, Yang Shangkui, and Liu Jianhua left behind many moving legends and glorious footprints as they fought bravely for revolutionary victory.
