Former Residence of Mao Zedong in Xinwu Li

The Former Residence of Mao Zedong in Xinwu Li is located in Xinwu Li Group, Changsheng Village, Jiading Town, Xinfeng County, dating back to 1932.

This was Comrade Mao Zedong’s fourth visit to Xinfeng, during which he brought Marxism-Leninism to the local revolutionary movement and propelled it into a new phase.

In mid-July 1932, after the “Battle of Shuikou,” Comrade Mao Zedong led the First Red Army Corps. As they withdrew from Shuikou and headed back to the Central Soviet Area, they passed through Wu Jing and arrived in Xinfeng. The Red Army then rested throughout the area. Mao Zedong stayed in Xinwu Li, a village located three or four li from the county seat.

In Xinwu Li, Mao Zedong’s bed and office were both set up in the main hall of the Ye residence. The furnishings were extremely simple: a wooden bench was used as a base with a door panel laid on top to serve as his bed, and an eight-immortal table was placed nearby as his workspace. On the desk were red and blue pencils, an inkstone, a stack of paper, and a copy of *An Introduction to Marxism-Leninism*, along with an iron document box. Maps were hung on the walls of the hall.

Balancing battle and production, Comrade Mao Zedong often went deep among the people, showing concern for their work and lives. He inspired and educated the masses to rise up in revolution, spreading the truths of the revolutionary cause. He taught political commissar Yan Yaojie about revolutionary theory and literacy. Sometimes he would sit under a camphor tree reading *An Introduction to Marxism-Leninism*. During breaks, he took walks in the woods behind the house. After staying in Xinwu Li for seven days, Mao Zedong led the Red Army to leave Xinfeng via Longshe and Yueling, heading in the direction of Gan County.

Jiading Town: Located in the county seat of Xinfeng, Jiading Town is the political, economic, and cultural center of the entire county. Formed in 2001 through the merger of the former Tongyi Township, Jiading Town, and Longshe Township, it is known as the largest town in southern Jiangxi. The town covers a total area of 260 square kilometers, including 55,000 mu of arable land and 330,000 mu of mountainous land.
