Pangu Xian Temple is a cultural tourism attraction.

Pangu Xian Temple is located in Shuangxiao Village, Wuzhifeng Township, covering an area of about 600 square meters. From the foot of the mountain upwards, it consists of the Three Saints Hall (formerly known as "Jile Temple"), the Three Mothers Palace, and Pangu Rock.

Three Saints Hall (Sutra Hall): Renamed during its fourth major renovation, its original name was Jile Temple. The couplet reads: “Supreme benevolence sails the compassionate boat, wishing all beings to follow the righteous path; delighting in promoting Buddhism, it manifests a prosperous era of peace and tranquility.”

Three Mothers Palace: On both sides are Old Crab Stones (Crab Rocks), with Zhongkun Mother Yuanjun in the center, Guanyin on the left, and Nüwa on the right. It is mainly visited by locals praying for children and fulfilling vows.

Pangu Rock: A massive rock covers the roof, forming a cave shaped like the Chinese character for “gate,” believed to be the dwelling place of immortals where outsiders are not allowed to enter without permission.

Legend has it that this Pangu Xian stone cave was created by the Pangu immortal as his own resting place when he separated heaven and earth. In the fifth year of the Tongzhi reign during the Qing Dynasty (1867), a Buddhist temple—Pangu Xian Temple—was built beneath the cave. For centuries, Pangu Xian Temple has had varying degrees of influence and impact on the rise and fall of religious culture in Yingqian, Wuzhifeng, and even Shangyou, as well as neighboring regions.

From December of the lunar calendar to February of the following year, the temple sees a significant increase in incense offerings. From January to February, there are on average over 100 visitors per day, peaking at up to 1,000 visitors on auspicious days such as Chinese New Year and the 19th of February. On regular days, the average is around 20 visitors. Enjoying vegetarian meals at the temple offers a unique experience. Meals can be taken anytime upon arrival—each person receives a bowl of vegetarian dish and a portion of rice. After hiking up the mountain, even though it’s a fully vegetarian meal, you may find your appetite surprisingly strong and the food especially delicious.

Wuzhifeng Township: Wuzhifeng Township is located 70 kilometers from the county seat. It gets its name from the five closely connected peaks that resemble outstretched fingers. These naturally formed peaks rise straight into the clouds, with the highest peak reaching an elevation of 1,607 meters. From a distance, Wuzhifeng presents a vivid and majestic sight.

In 1994, it was developed into a tourist exploration scenic area. The scenic zone spans 40 square li. It includes Qiyun Mountain, known as the “Roof of Southern Jiangxi,” which rises 2,061 meters above sea level, standing majestically and touching the sky; the thousands of hectares of primeval forest “Guanggu Mountain,” where the pine waves shake the earth; and numerous natural landscapes scattered across Wuzhifeng.
