Doushui Yuejinmen Gate

Doushui Yuejinmen Gate is a cultural relic protection unit of Jiangxi Province.

Doushui Yuejinmen Gate is located on the main street of Doushui Town. It was initially built during the Great Leap Forward period, hence the name “Yuejinmen” (Leap Forward Gate). Originally constructed as a bamboo and wood archway, it was demolished and rebuilt in 1970 during the Cultural Revolution and converted into a brick-and-stone structure, also known as the “Loyalty to Mao Archway.” On May 20, 2002, the Shangyou River Hydropower Plant carried out maintenance work. In 2008, during another round of maintenance, the sunflower design at the top of the gate was replaced with a red five-pointed star design, largely preserving the original appearance.

The gate faces southeast and is a single-span, double-pillar brick-and-stone archway, measuring 12 meters in width, nearly 2.4 meters in thickness, and 8 meters in height (with the highest point, the tip of the red star, reaching 8.65 meters), covering an area of approximately 28 square meters.

On the front sides of the gate, the words “Long Live the Great Communist Party of China” and “Long Live the Great Leader Chairman Mao” are molded in cement, above which are patterns of “Yan’an” and “Jinggangshan.” On the back sides are the phrases “Sailing the Seas Depends on the Helmsman” and “Revolution Depends on Mao Zedong Thought,” above which are patterns of “Zunyi” and “Tiananmen.”

The curved span on the front features the phrase “Long Live the Victory of Mao Zedong Thought,” while the back displays “Long Live the Great Leader Chairman Mao.” At the center of the curved span is the red five-pointed star, flanked by three red flags on each side.

Yuejinmen Gate is a typical architectural landmark from the Great Leap Forward era and also bears the characteristics of a Loyalty to Mao Archway from the Cultural Revolution, making it a relatively unique and significant modern historical site. The building evokes memories of that particular period and is now quite rare. In August 2005, it was listed as part of the fourth batch of cultural relic protection units by the county government. In March 2018, it was included in the sixth batch of cultural relic protection units by the provincial government.

Doushui Town: Doushui Town is located in the southwest of Shangyou County, about 21 kilometers from the county seat. The town covers an area of 47 square kilometers, including 2,185 mu of arable land. It administers one neighborhood committee, four administrative villages, 56 village groups, and has a total population of 5,233, of which 1,724 are non-agricultural residents. The area hosts provincial-level institutions such as the Shangyou River Hydropower Plant, municipal-level entities like the Youjiang Forest Farm, and the Gannan Arboretum, as well as the national scenic spot — Doushui Lake Park. With its green mountains and clear waters, the area offers pleasant scenery and is a prime green tourism destination in Ganzhou City.
