Nanhe Lake

Nanhe Lake is the second-largest of the five major artificial lakes in Shangyou, ranking among the top, and is located 50 kilometers from Ganzhou City. It lies on the outskirts of the county town, forming a sister-lake pair with Xianren Lake in the urban area, where the two lakes complement each other at their heads and tails. To its west lies the national forest park of DouShui Lake. However, compared to DouShui Lake — the largest of the group — it is like a hidden jewel scattered in the grass, remaining largely unknown for a long time. Covering a total area of 16 square kilometers, Nanhe Lake features rolling hills, with forests spanning 14 square kilometers. The area enjoys a pleasant climate, with an average annual temperature of 18°C to 22°C, abundant sunshine, and favorable weather conditions. It receives an average annual rainfall of 1,595 millimeters, boasts rich water resources, fertile land, and well-preserved forest landscapes.

In 1975, the national key project Nanhe Dam was completed with a total investment of 73 million yuan, paving the way for tourism development in the area. The dam intercepts the waters of the You River, which originates from Wuzhi Peak, creating a serene, blue lake amid the continuous hills. The winding, meandering lake surface — stretching nine bends and eighteen turns — and the lush greenery of Nanhe Lake create a breathtaking ecological beauty, as if naturally and masterfully formed along the You River.

To develop the tourism resources of Nanhe, tourism authorities once invited renowned domestic experts to conduct surveys from top to bottom, examining the surrounding mountains, waters, springs, caves, rare flora and fauna, and local folk customs. They summarized three main features: ① Rich tourism resources are available, including verdant mountains, clear waters, a vast lake surface, and minimal water level variation; ② The lakeside and canyon areas hold high potential for ecotourism development, suitable for building high-end hotels, leisure clubs, and tourist real estate; ③ With a water surface area of 2.4 square kilometers and a journey of 7 kilometers from Dongshan to Yuezi, the area features undulating mountains on both banks and enchanting lake-and-mountain scenery that is truly uplifting. Currently, tourism plans are being developed for the Feicui Island plot in Doushui Town and the Dongxikeng plot in Dongshan Town. Meanwhile, to enable multi-dimensional development of Nanhe Lake, the county is planning to construct a lakeside ring road, as well as connecting routes to expressways and first-class highways.
