Xiawan Nine Halls and Eighteen Courtyards Residential Complex

The Xiawan Nine Halls and Eighteen Courtyards Residential Complex is a cultural relic protection unit of Jiangxi Province.

The Nine Halls and Eighteen Courtyards is located at the foot of Huangkengkou Mountain in Xiawan Village, Yingqian Town. It was first built in the 39th year of the Qianlong reign (1774 AD). Oriented east to west, the structure is made of brick and wood with a hanging gable roof and upturned eaves on both sides. Rectangular in shape, it has a depth of two halls and one courtyard spanning 32.2 meters, and a total width of 12 bays covering 47.2 meters. The entire building consists of nine halls, eighteen courtyards, over fifty wing rooms, and covers an area of 1,519.8 square meters. The lintel is engraved with four large characters: “Yang Yu Putian”. On both sides of the bluestone gate are carved couplets that read: “Bright and breezy, auspicious clouds gather as moonlight reflects on tidal waves across thousands of acres of blue; misty and serene, the peaks embrace the hills as eternal spring arrives for ten thousand years.” The shrine and door pillars are exquisitely carved. Ancillary relics include a Qing Dynasty stone mill and windmill. It was renovated in 2008, preserving its original appearance. In August 2005, it was listed as a fourth batch cultural relic protection unit by the county government. In March 2018, it was designated as a sixth batch cultural relic protection unit by the provincial government.
