Former Residence of Mao Zedong in Yingqian

The Former Residence of Mao Zedong in Yingqian is a cultural relic protection unit of Jiangxi Province and a classic red tourism attraction.

The Former Residence of Mao Zedong in Yingqian is located in Benghekan Natural Village, Xiangya Village, Yingqian Town. Originally built during the Jiaqing era of the Qing Dynasty, it features a civil-structured building with a hanging gable roof. The residence spans six bays with a total width of 29.7 meters, has two courtyards in depth separated by a central patio, and covers a total area of 588 square meters.

On January 14, 1929, Comrade Mao Zedong led the main forces of the Red Army from Jinggangshan on their march to southern Jiangxi and western Fujian. Upon entering Yingqian County from Suichuan, Mao stayed overnight in this residence and held a meeting with underground party leaders from counties such as Chongyi, Youxian, and Kangxian. He provided guidance on armed struggle, land revolution, and the establishment of revolutionary bases, marking the beginning of the armed struggle in the county. In 1983, it was listed as one of the first batch of cultural relic protection units by the county government.

In 2011, the County Bureau of Culture, Radio, Television, News, and Publication secured 500,000 yuan in special grassroots cultural relic protection funds from the Provincial Department of Culture and Finance to carry out comprehensive renovations of the residence. In the same year, the County Museum organized its display and exhibition. In March 2018, it was listed as part of the sixth batch of cultural relic protection units by the provincial government.
