Former Sites of the Red Third Army Corps in Shangzhai

The Former Sites of the Red Third Army Corps in Shangzhai are designated as cultural relics protection units of Jiangxi Province.

The former site of the Red Third Army Corps Arsenal in Shangzhai is located at the foot of the mountain at the entrance of Shiqiao Natural Village, Shangzhai Village, Pingfu Township. Originally built during the Daoguang reign of the Qing Dynasty, the structure faces south, features a timber-framed earthen construction with a flush-gable roof, spans four bays totaling 38.1 meters in width, has two interior halls, and covers a total area of 544.8 square meters. In June 1931, the Red Third Army Corps Arsenal was moved here from Jinping, Chongyi. It primarily repaired firearms (single-shot rifles, rifles, and carbines) and manufactured ammunition such as bullets and shells, playing a significant role during the revolutionary war period. This site holds important value for studying the combat history of the Red Army in southern Jiangxi and the manufacturing techniques of ammunition. In August 2005, it was listed as part of the fourth batch of county-level cultural relics protection units.
