Yangtiangang Forest Park

Yangtiangang Forest Park is located in Yangtiangang, Chengbei Subdistrict, Yushui District, Xinyu City, covering a total area of 6.7 square kilometers. Originally named Yanggang or Yangshan, the hill was renamed Yangtiangang after Huang Xizhang, a Taoist boy from Xinyu during the Northern Song Dynasty, was said to have appeared to aid the nation by repelling Jin troops. He was posthumously honored by Emperor Huizong of Song as the “True Man Huang Shi Qiu, the Enlightened One of Yangtiangang Who Founded the Mountain, Cultivated the Way, Protected the Nation, and Brought Benevolence—Stone Mound.” The area features rolling hills, layered peaks, lush forests, picturesque bamboo, serene valleys, peculiar rocks, and other stunning natural landscapes such as Chicken Comb Ridge, Lion Spouting Water, One Sheet Gate, and Hat-Writing Stone. The main peak, Liangshan Nao, stands at an elevation of 450 meters and is said to have once hosted the “Liangshan Stronghold.” From the summit, visitors can gaze down at the majestic cityscape of towering buildings and crisscrossing streets, or look out toward the fragrant rice fields and stream-like rivers of the countryside, evoking a sense of solitude atop a lone peak observing the vastness of nature. At the mountaintop lies the site of Yanggang Temple, originally built during the Tang Dynasty and later renovated in the Ming Dynasty. To develop tourism resources, Yushui District has recently reconstructed the temple. The newly rebuilt Yanggang Temple appears ethereal and auspicious, facing south with three bays, ornate dragon heads, and upturned eaves, presenting a grand and imposing sight. It has now become a key tourist attraction in Yangtiangang Forest Park. To further enrich the cultural heritage of the area, in 1999 Yushui District successfully relocated and rebuilt Chongqing Temple at the foot of Yangtiangang. Especially after the completion of the first phase—the Lay Buddhists’ Forest—at Chongqing Temple, it attracted thousands of visitors and Buddhist devotees from Nanchang, Yichun, Pingxiang, and other areas for sightseeing and worship, peaking at several thousand visitors per day. In October 2000, Yushui District invested 460,000 yuan to build a two-kilometer-long, six-meter-wide asphalt road. This road, like a green silk ribbon, harmoniously connects Yangtian Avenue and Yangtiangang Forest Park, providing strong momentum for the effective development of the area.
