Taiwan, surrounded by sea on all sides, draws many tourists to the beaches during summer vacation to enjoy the water. Without traveling far, they can take in the magnificent ocean views. But besides the beaches and water parks, Taiwan also has plenty of water play areas where visitors can cool off. Here’s a list of ten water play areas across Taiwan that travelers might want to add to their must-visit list.

1. Yilan Children’s Folk Game Festival
The annual Yilan International Children’s Folklore and Folkgame Festival runs from July 7 to August 19 at the Wushuang River Water Park, spanning 44 days. This year, a special 100-dollar children’s folk game passport has been introduced. Children born between September 1, 2002, and July 6, 2012, can purchase the passport for just 100 dollars, which allows unlimited access to the park. The offer is also available to residents registered in Yilan County or those whose ID numbers start with the letter G.

2. Tainan Wushantou Reservoir Water Play Park
Tainan Wushantou Reservoir Water Play Park features five major water play zones: a children’s water play area, a high-altitude water slide, a rainforest waterfall zone, a dinosaur tunnel, and a mushroom zone. The pool water is sourced from the Wushantou Reservoir, with clear signage displaying the water temperature and quality test results.

3. Keelung Nuannuan Water Play Park
The Keelung Nuannuan Water Play Park stretches over 4 kilometers in length and includes art stone pillars, a children’s splash pool, a water-friendly walking trail, children’s amusement facilities, and even a small castle for water play. In addition, there is a blue pedestrian suspension bridge spanning both banks of the Nuannuan River. The park is surrounded by various walking trails and wooden boardwalks.

4. Taipei Dajia Riverside Park
Taipei Dajia Riverside Park is a popular spot for picnics. In addition to picnic areas, the park also offers a sandbox play zone for children, along with a free water play area designed mainly for kids, featuring sprinkler installations such as giant circles, bamboo dragonflies, and shower devices.

5. Yingge Ceramics Museum
Besides admiring ceramic art, Yingge Ceramics Museum features a large water play area within its grounds. Colorful and adorable spherical art installations make it irresistible for children, and there is also a huge sandbox nearby for endless sand play. The museum stated that the water play area opened as early as June this year and will remain open until the end of September. However, the pool will be closed for cleaning and disinfection on June 2–3, August 6–7, and September 4–5.

6. Hsinchu Nanliao Tourism Service Center
A family-friendly beach water play area recently opened in front of the Nanliao Tourism Service Center, integrating a splash pool, sandbox, slide, and landscape design. It also offers beautiful coastal views, making it a hit among families.

7. Hsinchu Beibu Cold Spring
The cold spring in Beibu Township, Hsinchu, is the only place in Taiwan besides Su'ao in Yilan that has natural cold springs. The local spring water is carbonated, rich in sulfur minerals, and its light yellow color is said to have special therapeutic effects on skin diseases. The cool water temperature typically stays between 10–20 degrees Celsius, and the water flow in this area is calm, posing minimal safety risks.

8. Taichung Da’an Coastal Swimming Pool
The Taichung Da’an Coastal Swimming Pool is open from June 2 to September 2. The park covers an area of 17 hectares, featuring a flat and wide beach with fine, soft sand and azure blue seawater. During low tide, stretches of sandy beach hundreds of meters long are exposed. The site also includes a seawater bathing beach and swimming pool, where visitors can enjoy a variety of water activities such as jet skiing and banana boat rides.
