Jiangkou Scenic Area

Jiangkou Scenic Area is located on the upper reaches of the Yuan River in Xinyu City. It is a reservoir built in 1958, featuring numerous islands on the lake and earning the nickname “Thousand Island Lake of Jiangxi.” The scenic area spans 175 square kilometers, surrounded by green mountains and clear waters. The area is divided into three parts: the lower section includes thirty thousand acres of reservoir bays with winding waterways and scattered islands; the middle section features a 3-kilometer-long high mountain valley, vividly described as “cliffs towering to the sky, looking up to see only a sliver of light,” hence the name “Little Three Gorges.”

The upper section has a water surface of over thirty thousand acres, vast and misty as far as the eye can see, dotted with fishing boats, with distant peaks emerging and fading into view — a picturesque scene of lake and mountain beauty. Visitors here feel as if they are inside a landscape painting, truly experiencing the sensation of “boats sailing on water, people wandering in a painting.” To the south, the majestic Zhongshan Mountain and lush Linggang Mountain stand like jade-green screens; to the north, the seven peaks of Yuan Ridge resemble a soaring dragon, descending from the towering Yangshan Mountain with overwhelming momentum.

Snake Island is located to the north of Ruohong Islands in Wulong Lake Scenic Area of Fairy Lake National Forest Park, covering an area of only 3.5 acres.

The Wannian Bridge, also known as the Wansui Bridge and commonly called the Dongmen Bridge, spans the southern part of Qianyang Lake in Fairy Lake National Forest Park. With a total length of 384 meters and a width of 7.68 meters, it is a large stone arch bridge with 11 spans and served as the main southern route from ancient Fen Yi County.

Legend has it that long ago, a young man from Xinyu encountered fairy maidens who descended to earth here, and he fell in love and married the most beautiful and youngest of them, hence the origin of the name.

Fairy Lake is located 16 kilometers southwest of Xinyu City, Jiangxi Province. It is the birthplace of the legendary tale of “fairies descending to earth” recorded in the ancient text “In Search of the Supernatural,” and is a well-known lake-type national key scenic spot, as well as the largest subtropical tree species gene bank in Asia. Covering a scenic area of 189 square kilometers with a water surface of 50 square kilometers, the lake is dotted with islands, has crystal-clear waters, and is surrounded by mysterious and alluring primeval forests.

Fairy Lake boasts simple and beautiful natural scenery, characterized by “seclusion, elegance, wonder, and grandeur.” The scenic area combines both lake and mountainous landscapes. There’s the winding Wulong Lake with interconnected waterways, the rapid-flowing Zhongshan Gorge flanked by two peaks, the misty and vast Lingyang Lake bustling with sailing boats, and the Dagan Mountain, a treasure trove of green genes. Within this ancient and magical land of Fairy Lake, numerous beautiful legends are told, complemented by countless historical relics that have left their mark in history — an underwater ancient city, ancient bridges in the water, ancient stone carvings by the lake, old temples, and ancient pottery kiln sites that are considered wonders of Chinese heritage. This is also the hometown of Huzhao, Jiangxi’s first top imperial scholar in the Tang Dynasty; Wang Qinruo, a prominent minister of the Song Dynasty; and Yan Song, a powerful prime minister of the Ming Dynasty. Notably, the monumental scientific work “Tiangong Kaiwu” by Song Yingxing adds rich cultural significance to Fairy Lake.
