Jiangkou Reservoir Wetland

Located on the upper reaches of the Yuan River, it is a reservoir built in 1958. With numerous islands in the lake, it is known as "Thousand Island Lake of Jiangxi." The scenic area spans 175 square kilometers and is surrounded by verdant mountains and shimmering waters. The scenic zone consists of three parts: the downstream section features 30,000 acres of reservoir bays with winding waterways and scattered islands; the midstream section includes a 3-kilometer-long high mountain gorge, where steep cliffs rise on both sides towards the sky, creating the true image of a “slit of sky” when you look up—hence it’s also called “Little Three Gorges.” The upstream area encompasses over 30,000 acres of water surface, vast and misty, stretching endlessly with fishing boats dotting the scene and distant peaks emerging and fading into view—a breathtaking panorama of lake and mountain scenery. Here, one feels as if immersed in a traditional ink painting, truly experiencing the sensation of “boats sailing on water, and people wandering within a painting.” To the south, the majestic Zhongshan Mountain and lush Linggang Mountain stand like emerald screens reaching into the sky, while to the north, the seven peaks of Yuanling resemble a coiling dragon, descending from the towering and cloud-piercing Yangshan Mountain with overwhelming momentum and irresistible force.
